If you are considering sending your child to Private School, Grammar School or to a Secondary Academy School he or she may be required to sit a Common Entrance exam, often referred to as the '11 Plus test'.
These exams take place throughout the Autumn and Spring Term of your child's final year of primary school (year 6). Hence preparation for these exams should ideally start no later than the time at which your child enters year 5.
The 11+ Common Entrance exam can vary in structure and format from institution to institution and across different Local Authorities. The majority of Common Entrance exams consist of assessments in the following areas:
- English Comprehension and Composition (Essay Writing)
- Mathematics
- Verbal Reasoning
- Non Verbal Reasoning
We can tutor your child in all of the above disciplines using a combination of paper based activities, 11+ learning games and interactive computer resources, making the learning process fun, dynamic and engaging.
As a student of A-P Learning your child will also have FREE unlimited access to Bond 11+ Online, one of the UK's most recognised and established 11+ assessment resource provider.
Some schools offer a 10+ Common Entrance exam for which your child will have to sit a test in the autumn term of year 5. In this case we recommend preparation starts in the autumn term at which your child enters year 4.
Some Local Authorities have compulsory Secondary School Common Entrance exams. For more information on Secondary School selective testing or Secondary School admissions please contact your Local Authority.
Secondary School Interview Preparation
Many Secondary Schools interview prospective students, and in some cases their parents /carers, before they make their final selection. In light of this we offer a mock interview session for children preparing for a Secondary School interview.
We take your child through a series of questions that encourage them to talk about themselves, their hobbies, their ambitions and ultimately what qualities he or she can bring to the school.
Children who have had an A-P Learning mock interview session before hand have gone into their interview with confidence and have come out feeling positive about their responses.
